BOPA was formed in 1995/6 by members of the then Cancer Care Special Interest Group of UKCPA agreed to form an independent group to represent oncology pharmacists.

The inaugural Executive Committee was chaired by Max Summerhayes and the first Annual General Meeting & Conference was held in 1999.
